Lecturers of the Department,
Technologists and Staff of Electrical & Electronics Engineering,
Observers, friends and well wishers,
My Co-Executives Here Present and My Fellow Students,
I Salute and Celebrate You All.
It is my singular honor and privilege to welcome you all to this auspicious occasion of the formal inauguration and handover ceremony of my administration to the incoming administration of our departmental student union government, led by Noble Comr. Eze Ikemefuna Maryjoseph.
I am scripting this piece with an overwhelming sense of gratitude to God Almighty for his grace and to the generality of the peace loving students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department.
Today in retrospect evidently brings to life how I was made a trusted instrument to fearlessly drive the much-expected new dawn in our student’s unionism, which was desirous of prosperity and a new lease of life.
Our foremost concern was not just only the welfare of the students but also the welfare of our amiable lecturers. In keeping in line with our campaign promises which was anchored on “selfless service to SEEES”, the Eze Maryjoseph led administration engineered a process that began with the provision of packets of white board marker for each level at regular intervals; provision of wall clock in each office of our lecturers; painting and carpeting of our lecturer’s offices and the SEEES library; provision and erecting of waste bin stands in strategic locations in our department; creating of a BlogSpot for the society to enhance information dissemination to the students; opening and maintaining of a joint account for the society to curb mishandling of the society’s funds and enhance accountability; provision of 3kva generating set meant for use in our laboratories; provision of white boards for the three levels of ND1, ND2, and HND1 each, organizing a cost effective excursion to Innoson Group of companies Enugu, organizing a successful picnic for the students, organizing of orientation exercise for the freshmen, conducting of a credible free and fair election and lastly, maintaining of the lecturer-students relationship in our department.
It is also worthy to note that we encountered so many challenges which include lack of official office for the EXCOS; lack of internal generated revenue and the fearful auto accident which claimed the life of one of our 2014/15 graduated students.
On our internal generated revenue, we expect that members of this association must demonstrate a sense of responsibility by promptly paying their annual dues without waiting to be reminded. No association can accomplish much without the financial support of her members, and this association is not an exception. The future of this association is dependent on the strength of her finance and we cannot afford to stall on our goals by reneging on our financial obligations.
However, on the issue of securing an office for the SEEES EXCOS, I hereby pray our amiable HOD to intervene in this matter and see that a befitting office is secured for our successors.
MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO CONTESTED AND LOST IN THE JUST CONCLUDED ELECTION
Electioneering campaigns are over, elections have been held and results are known. Two sets of people have evolved; “the losers and the winners”. To the vanquished, though you have lost the election, you are not losers. Losing out in the election doesn’t mean you are not qualified for that post; you might even be the round peg which fits for the hole.
I quite understand how you feel now; you feel rejected, repressed and jilted. Your feelings are valid. It takes something out of one when he/she loses an election, but don’t let those feelings continue to guide your actions or the way you view yourself. Just because you weren’t elected doesn’t change the significance of your heart, your desires, your passions, your abilities, your skills, your intentions or your dreams. It merely changed your plans.
You think all you have spent during campaigns was to no avail-your time, energy and resources. Heck no! Think of all you have learnt. You may not have met your goal, but you have taken more steps on the path to growth.
Perhaps, you have the mind’s eye that losing the election is the dead end to the plans you have for SEEES, the changes and differences you wish and want to make, it’s high time you have a paradigm shift. Brothers, you can still work for those things you planned for SEEES should in case you were voted in. You can still make things happen.
If you are passionate and confident enough to run a campaign on the plans, then you are the one we still need to make these things happen. You will just be working at it from a different angle. You don’t really need to be in position/office in order to make a difference; some of the best leaders in the world don’t hold any type of formal position, yet they are influential. I hope you are able to find a new path for the next season of your journey. Wishing you all the best!
TO THE WINNERS
It feels good to win an election, not even one that was keenly contested like the just concluded election. I therefore use this medium to offer my warm and heartfelt congratulations to you. Congratulations once again!
There is no gainsaying that you all campaigned on solid promises. Well aware, it has become the vogue of Nigerian politicians to promise all sorts of good things for the 'common men' only to ride on their backs to power and fend for themselves. This is one thing that Student politicians have inherited from our political leaders.
I am hoping that you would all do and fulfill your promises made during electioneering campaigns, letting you know that SEEES have lots of hope in you all. Your election itself shows how much the people love and trust you. You had worked hard for this and they appreciated it. More importantly, one thing is that you all should do softly with our MONEY. Nobody asked some of you to spend yourselves dry during campaigns. And, should in case, after promising us to make the department a paradise for us, you now use your office to enrich your pockets by fraudulent means, you have no right to complain if you do not get either the student’s co-operation or that of the management.
I wish you a successful tenure and hope that your hard work brings you higher responsibilities and position in your endeavors in life, amen.
APPRECIATION
Today I will be joining the league of president emeritus. This will not be possible if I fail to appreciate the brains behind the success stories recorded by my administration.
First and foremost, I will like to thank God Almighty for His grace which is the reason for my existence.
My unalloyed thanks goes to all my friends, especially Anieze Nelson (Mandela) who took the pains to buy the nomination form for me—of which without, my person would not stand here this hour to present this speech. May God bless you and your courage sir!
My unreserved appreciation goes to my HOD, Engr. Ugwu Kevin, who has been a father to this administration. Daddy may God bless you sir! The staff and students of our Department are not left out, especially Engr. Ugwu Chinwenite whose advice has remained hinges to this administration. You all are appreciated.
Charity they say begins at home. My success story will not be complete if I forget to thank my cabinet (co-excos) for their unalloyed supports which remain the backbone. Your names will ever remain in good books of life and history will never forget you.
I cannot forget in a hurry the executives of Fellowship of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Students (FEEES). I appreciate them for their moral and spiritual supports.
Will I end this appreciation without giving a sweet kiss to my bestie Miss……………….? Please permit me to address her as Her Excellency.
In summary, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our administration has done it’s best to intervene robustly and impact positively on key aspects of our union. There is no doubt that challenges abounds, but they are surmountable and overwhelming transformation remains realizable, with continuity, commitment and consistency. I hereby charge the incoming administration to leave their footprints on the sand of time.
As we hand over the reins of government, I believe that our union is secure and the future is bright. Let us all work together and with one united front and greater resolve, continue to build a stronger and more prosperous union.
Before I rest my case, if I have wounded any soul during the course of my service to SEEES, I humbly plead for your unconditional forgiveness. Better days are still ahead. I have just learnt one thing in leadership during my service and that is to be a little more patient in life.
It has been a “devoted leadership” deriving its inspiration from you. I humbly implore you all to inspire the incoming administration for a better unionism. I will miss you all!
Long Live Federal Republic Of Nigeria!
Long Live Enugu State!
Long Live IMT Community!
Long Live SEEES!
Aluta continua; Victoria ascerta!!!
God bless you all.
NOBLE COMRADE EZE IKEMEFUNA MARYJOSEPH
EMERITUS PRESIDENT SEEES
