SUG ELECTION: MESSAGE TO THE VANGUISHED AND THE VANQUISHERS! By Eze Ikemefuna Maryjoseph
Electioneering campaigns are over, elections
have been held and the results are known.
Winners are joyous, losers are shaking hands.
Thank God we are not experiencing the
acrimony that has become an after-election
pattern in Nigeria. A situation where there is
always pandemonium and chaos whatsoever.
Two sets of people have evolved: 'the
VANQUISHED and the VANQUISHERS'. To the
VANQUISHED, though you lost the election,
you're not losers. Losing the election doesn't
mean you are not qualified for that post, you
might even be the round peg which fits for the
hole. Believe you me, a great courage you've
surmounted for even stepping and standing out
when a lot of people who could also make
changes sat back blended in. I salute you for
your conviction.
I quite understand how you feel now; you feel
rejected, repressed and jilted. Your feelings are
valid. It takes something out of one when he/she
loses an election, but don't let those feelings
continue to guide your actions or the way you
view yourself. Just because you weren't elected
doesn't change the significance of your heart,
your desires, your passions, your abilities, your
skills, your intentions, or your dreams. It merely
changed your plans.
I can feel your pains of losing the election with
all you put in place for your victory to be
ensured. You printed posters and distributed
flyers; your costly digital banners were firmly
tied at strategic areas. You awash everywhere
with your posters, fliers, banners. You painted
the unpainted fore-walls of our hinterland with
your colour posters . You rolled out drums, danced round
the school under the scorching and baking sun;
rented public address system and you moved
from CAMPUS 3 to CAMPUS 4 and
then finalized your mass publicity at LOVE GARDEN ;
you did that for days.
SOME bought T-Shirts, Round Neck and V-Neck
Shirts, inscribed your name on its all, and
distributed it for your supporters to wear
throughout the days of your campaign. You
bought assorted drinks for groups claimed to be
Stakeholders. SHANTAL Supermarket, COKE CENTRE, COOKIES GARDEN ,
NEW LIFE BAR, and even XTASTEE became a home of
visiting for you, friends and supporters, as you're
being pestered daily by them to quell their thirst
for dishes their taste buds craves for.
You feel all you've spent during campaigns was
to no avail- your time, energy and resources.
Heck NO! You put your hat in the ring, you gave
it your best shot, and you did something that
wasn't easy. All of that, in and of itself, is a
huge victory. Think of all you've learnt, think of
all you've done to stretch yourself. You may not
have met your goal, but you've taken more steps
on the path to growth. Judging from the fact that I have lost an election as such, thus I
know how it feels for someone to lose an
election. It hurts , it makes one feel out of sync
and uncertain. It is an emotional rollercoaster
ride; but I want you to realize that everyone who
desires to be in an elected position will lose out
to someone else at some point. I know, losing
an election is a difficult experience, but it is one
that we can definitely learn from and bounce
back from. I think it takes time to get over it,
but after a while, it's easier to focus on the
learning part and not the losing part.
Perhaps, you have the mind's eye that losing the
election is the dead end to the plans you have
for IMTITES, the Changes and Differences
you wish and want to make, it's high time you
had a paradigm shift. Brothers and Sisters, you
can still work for those things you planned for
IMTITES should in case you were voted in.
You can still make things happen!
If you're passionate and confident enough to run
a campaign on the plans, then you are the one
we still need to make these things happen.
You'll just be working at it from a different
angle. You don't really need to be in a position/
office in order to make a difference; some of the
best leaders in the world don't hold any type of
formal position, yet they are very influential. I
hope you are able to find a new plan and a new
path for the next season of your journey.
Wishing you all the best!
To the VICTORS, the VANQUISHERS, it feels
good to win an election, not even one that was
keenly contested like the just concluded
Students' Union Government Election. I therefore
use this medium to offer my warm and heartfelt
congratulations to you newly elected SUG Excos.
Congratulations once again!
There is no gainsaying that you all campaigned
on solid promises. Well aware, it has become the
vogue of Nigerian politicians to promise all sorts
of good things for the 'common men' only to
ride on their back to power and fend for
themselves. This is one thing that Student
politicians have inherited from our political
leaders. I've used some sessions on this
campus, but a reflection into the past Students'
Union Leaders on this campus leaves a sour
taste in the mouth.
In fairness to them, they all had their constraints
but methinks one of the qualities of a good
leader is foresight to envisage these constraints
and plan to surmount them. It is in this light that
I want you present Student Union Executives to
tackle our problems with a realistic approach. I
need not mention our problems, I guess you
know it all; or would you have campaigned to
tackle the problems you know not about?
I am hoping that you would all do and fulfill your
promises made during electioneering campaigns,
letting you know that IMTITES have lots of
hope in you all. Your election itself shows how
much the people love and trust you. You had
worked hard for this and they appreciated it.
More importantly, one thing is that you all should
do softly with our MONEY. Nobody asked some
of you to spend yourselves dry during
campaigns. And, should in case, after promising
Us to make the INSTITUTION a paradise for Us, you
now use your office to enrich your pockets by
fraudulent means; you terrorize on bluff Us and,
if on the whole, you fail to draw respect for the
UNION, you have no right to complain if you do
not get either the Students cooperation or that
of the Management.
I therefore enjoin you newly elected Excos to
revive, revitalize and rebrand our hitherto
castrated Union. I wish you a successful tenure
and hope that your hard work brings you higher
responsibilities and position in your endeavours
in life. Shalom!!!

Sir
LETTER OF REQUEST
I, Eze Ikemefuna Maryjoseph the President of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department write to seek for Managements intervention as it affect the welfare of the students in my department.
Sir, the ND1 students of my department (totaling about 300 students in number) do not have a classroom where they receive lectures. They share classroom with the HND1 students, a situation which leaves them with no option than to roam around when the HND1 students are occupying the classroom.
It is in the face of this challenge that I request the Management through your good office to help allocate a classroom to this my ND1 students with about ( 20-25) number of desks provided for them.
We will be glad to receive your quick response.
Yours faithfully

Fear Grips Cultists As MAN O WAR Militia Marched Around Campus 3 , IMT ENUGU
It was a dreadful day for cultists in IMT
campus 3 on wednesday as the popular Man
O War of Nigeria, IMT Enugu chapter holds
it’s first parade for the year.
The march and para-military displays by the
sturdy Militia which lasted for close to
7hours around the whole school environment
was hitch-free and no injury was incured.
There were shouting and chanting of military
songs and other esoteric statements by the
leaders of the march. the road leading to
the Student’s “Love Garden” was partially
blocked when the march reached its peak.
As they march pass various departments in
the school, students especially the new
ones were wondering what the match is for.
Until an interview is conducted with the
Regiment Sergeant Major of Man O War
Nigeria IMT Chapter represented by Comr.
Agu Charles (Mechanical Engineering
Department).
He stated that the march is to inform and
create awareness to the entire IMT
Community that they have resumed duty for
the year and as well as inform cultists that
“they are not sleeping but watching them”.
He stated that his government will have
zero-tolerance to cultism or any form of
misconduct among students especially the
new intakes.
According to him, “cultism is a sin against
humanity and is not something one can beat
his hand on his chest and be proud of”. He
bewailed the cheapening and profanation of
ruggedity and strong-headedness by
students and said “if you think you are
rugged and strong-headed, use it to serve
the nation in general and the school in
particular by joining MAN O WAR”.
After the National, School and MAN O WAR
flags were installed at their respective
poles at the front of the Indiana Hostel,
Campus 3, there were closing prayers and
remarks and the Comrades marched in to
their Barracks..... Please share
See Reasons For IMT Enugu Massive Admission This Year
Eze Maryjoseph....
There have been wagging of tongues by
both the wags and the mean inside and
outside of IMT Campus 3 about the recent
massive admission of new students into the
school.
An observant walk around the school
environment and some classrooms will
reveal that truly, IMT admitted more
students this year.
For example, a research by one of our
reporters at the Mass Communication
department, reveals that the current OND2
class admitted in the 2014/2015 Academic
year are not more than 100 in their
classroom but the OND1 students admitted
in this 2015/2016 Academic year are above
400 in number.
Some are lamenting that IMT has gone to
her conventional old way of admitting much
students which undisputably, have adverse
effect on students in some cases and make
the school system, some what not sanitised
as it was, the past few years. An era of
sorting, endless strikes, incessant slumping
of students due to over-populated
classrooms, among other vices.
Unfortunately, this lamentation is uncalled-
for as the Rector knows his onus and is
aware of his actions.
One of our researchers reveals that the
reason for the mass admission of students
into the school is because of the available
finance for management and massive
structures around the school. He buttresses
his point by citing a statement by the
School Rector on an interview with The Sun
Newspaper (last year) when there are less
students in the school unlike now.
The Rector explained the need for
expanding the carrying capacity of the
polytechnic, saying: “There is also the
financial consideration that our IGR of 7000
cannot carry anything; so we also got
approval from the NBTE that as long as we
can expand our physical resource based we
will be allowed to also expand our student
population. So the impetus was left on us to
aggressively improve our physical facilities.
“So we decided to provide more classrooms,
equip more laboratories, equip our libraries,
have a modern ICT Centre, better teaching
and learning environment; and we also
strengthened our admission processes to
ensure that only qualified students were
offered admission here. These were in
keeping with NBTE guidelines and when they
came on resource inspection they were able
to approve increases in our student
population. So from the 7000 we increased
in the first year to 9000; currently (last
year) we are 11,028 students; and hoping
that with all the massive infrastructural
development we have on ground, in the
2015/16 academic year we should be able
to hit 15,000 without incurring the anger of
NBTE.
“Our projection is that for the 2015 we
should target 15, 000 students; for the
2016/2017 I am targeting 20,000. So it will
continue to grow as long as we continue to
expand our resource base. For example in
the 2015/16 academic year I am going to
have about 3,200 additional sitting space;
we are getting classroom blocks of 400
sitting capacity each for School of Financial
studies, School of Arts and Design, School
of Environmental Design. We are also
increasing capacities for School of
Engineering, the building is almost
completed and will have additional 800
students; then the School of Technology an
additional 800. And our library will be in use
in the next two months.”
Also, Comrade Cletus Agbowo, Chairman,
Non Academic Staff of Union (NASU), IMT
branch expressed satisfaction with the work
being done by the IMT management. “The
present management has done well to
ameliorate the problems of IMT. If you go
down to Campus 3, you will see a lot of
structures. The management has put a lot
of structures on ground, we commissioned a
new auditorium that can carry about 800
students recently. With the pace of
development by the management, give IMT
two more years and they can pay salaries
from IGR even if government did not provide
subvention for two to three months. So in
terms of structure and development one can
comfortably say that we have a new IMT…”
Prof. Iloeje noted that before he assumed
office, the state government was giving the
institution N20m as subvention at a time
when student population was 35,000. Since
the IGR was high, there was nothing to
worry about. But when student population
tumbled down to 7000, things became
difficult. “I presented the facts and figures
on the basis of which the government then
approved an increase of our monthly
subvention to N120m monthly. Now, my
current salary wage bill is N160m a month;
so what we do is that when we get the
government subvention, we go to our IGR
and bring N40m and discharge salaries. This
has been working for IMT and as a rule,
salaries are paid on or before 25th of every
month.
The above points, among others are reasons
IMT admitted more students this Academic
year.

MEDICAL TEST/CLEARANCE AS HINDRANCE TO STUDENTS REGISTRATION
Reports reaching management indicate that long queue at the point of medical test/clearance is hindering the smooth and quick registration of our students, particularly the ND intakes.
Consequently, management has directed that students should be registered at various departments irrespective of the medical requirements, to facilitate their registration process. However, such students are required to produce evidence of their medical test/clearance before the end of the semester.
All HODs are hereby directed to disseminate this information to all our new intakes during their lectures, and also ensure that the Academic advisers are constantly present in their offices to attend to the students..
